Yea thats the same motor we have.. the 1.8T 180hp..We were told by the dealer touse a minimum of 90 octane..but the wanted us to use premium.
I then spoke to a few different guys at car shows to see what the were running, and most said they used 90 as well.
Like the other guys were saying run 90 most of the time, and every few tanks, or when you have the extra $$$ go ahead and put a tank of premium in.. I use fuel injector cleaner every 5,000mi or so.
If your getting alot of carbon build up, your not buning all of the fuel mixture on combustion. There are tons of reaons this could happen, weak spark, wrong air/fuel mixture, turbulance in the intake, resrtive air flow..
The higher octane will help the situation, but I don`t see it as the correct solution.
Just my thing, but Its not difficult to keep things tuned rpoperly with a little routine maintance.
