September 9, 2004is this truck going to be strictly off road? Its not going to be easy, but it's possible. I would think it would be easier to transplant the Ford 4.0 in to it. This would make the room for the chosen tranny and ensure the ease of a factory driveshaft.
Besides the obvious things keep in mind the Vortec motors require more fuel pressure than most fuel pumps will supply.
September 9, 2004Gutless huh? My dad's RCLB 4x Ranger has no problem moving out on 30x9.5s. 2.9 -> 4.0 is basically a bolt in swap. 2.9 -> 4.3...might as well just sell the Ranger and buy a S10.
September 9, 2004ummm...I think my Honda Rancher would turn 30x9.50's if I could find some to fit on it...and a lift...
I agree, go w/ the 4.0 or just buy a sten.

September 11, 2004you are fairly local to me if you are in Surrey
there is, or was a couple weeks ago, a 4x4 Ranger at TLE in Mission getting a nice 5.0/manual tranny conversion.
I wouldnt waste too much effort on a 4.0
