April 23, 2005My transmission is not shifting correctly, its a 1990 gmc sierra, 305, with a Th400 tranny, the tranny is good, im just wondering if it's the "detent selenoid", if i hammer down, it sometimes will not down shift, and at other times it will, but not allow the engine to gain RPM's...if anyone could shed some light on this it would be greatly appreciated

April 29, 2005If you're saying that sometimes it works and sometimes it don't, and it does have an electrical detent solenoid, I'd look toward the actuating micro switch at the carb, that is if has a carb. It may need adjusting or replacing. If it's fuel injected, then check the TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) ......
May 4, 2005Thanx for the advice, i changed it and it seemed to help with the tranny shifting and seems to have a bit more pep...thanx again
